Goshen and Lexington
Just across the border in Rockbridge County along scenic Route 39 is one of Virginia’s most beautiful spots: Goshen Pass. The road through this mountain pass runs parallel to the Maury River, where people love to go for a swim on a hot summer day. The historic and charming town of Lexington, home to VMI and Washington & Lee University is a short drive away.
Virginia’s Western Highlands
This sprawling four-county region includes the County of Bath, as well as neighboring counties of Highland and Alleghany as well as Craig, which is just to the south of Alleghany. Cass Scenic Railway
Across the border in West Virginia, you will find Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, which offers excursions pulled by steam-driven locomotives. The Town of Cass remains relatively unchanged, including the company store and train depot.
